Job Description:
Completes complex technical and administrative functions in the Radioactive Material Section (RMS) of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Job Details:
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is accepting applications for a health physicist position in the Radioactive Materials Division. This position will be based in Austin with some domestic travel anticipated.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health physics, physical science, nuclear or environmental engineering, chemistry, radiological science, physics, genetics, or mathematics, (COPY OF OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION) plus one year of full-time experience in health physics, radiation sciences, nuclear engineering, or radiological control and safety work.
OR Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health physics, physical science, nuclear or environmental engineering, chemistry, radiological science, physics, genetics, or mathematics (COPY OF OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION).
OR Current certification by the American Board of Health Physics as a Certified Health Physicist (CHP).

Manages a team of professional health physicists, scientists, and engineers who evaluate and administer the radioactive waste disposal and/or decommissioning facilities for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Plans, schedules, budgets, and administers Section programs; interprets state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations; develops policies and procedures; develops state regulations; reviews and directs program operations; and manages staff, workload and resources to meet agency goals and objectives. Completes personnel management functions, which includes interviewing, hiring, and developing staff, performance management, etc. Implements regulatory processes, data quality controls, and management controls to ensure accurate and efficient application of program requirements. Prepares management reports, analyses, correspondence, and related materials regarding Section activities. Represents the TCEQ in meetings, conferences, hearings, seminars, and other forums.
